Racing Ahead Training Day - 2010

Racing Ahead will be hosting a Training Day at Ahern State Park in Laconia NH on June 26, 2010.  Time 10am - 3pm   GoogleMap    We will hold TA workshops at 12 & again at 3pm
No need to register - Just show up!   (start on a course anytime from 10am - 1pm)   
Arrive early for best use of time!  No one out on courses after 3pm. 
Cost $5 per map for Orienteering. No other costs.  Foot navigation and Mt bike navigation will be offered, along with instruction on how to use a compass, how to read a map, route choices, navigation, and more! 
Bring your friends or try it alone!  A low cost / low key day to learn what adventure racing is all about. 
Learn about map and compass, setting up a transition area, what to eat, how to pack, what to bring to an adventure race.
Bring running shoes.
Bring mt bike and helmet. 
Bring a compass.  No compass? No problem, we'll loan you one!
Bring a canoe (kayak paddles?) to practice your paddling skills.  (no course will be set up, but there's a nice lake to practice your paddling!)
Nothing but a compass will be available to rent onsite.
Ahern State Park Amenities: free entry, parking, beach, portable toilet.
Tell us what you need help with and we'll give you some instruction and send you on a short course to test it out.

Directions to Ahern State Park, Laconia NH
From I-93, take exit 20. Go north about 7 miles on Rt 3, then Rt 11A to downtown Laconia. At the light, go left onto Main St/Rt 106 (Landmark Inn will be on your left). Follow Main St/Rt 106 north 2.4 miles, turn left into the entrance to the Laconia State Prison. Take an immediate left onto the dirt road at the Ahern State Park sign.

From the seasoast area, take Rt 11 north past the Laconia Airport, then Business Rt 3 towards downtown Laconia. At the light at Lakeport Square (Fratello's Restaurant on your left) take a right onto Elm St. Go 1.7 miles to the light, turn left onto Parade Road/Rt 106 south. Take the first right (0.5 miles) into the entrance to the Laconia State Prison. Take an immediate left onto the dirt road at the Ahern State Park sign.

2009 Training Day Results

The Pawtuckaway Trifecta '09 had a good turnout for a great day of training on one of North America's toughest Orienteering maps! We've posted the results by total points: 5 points per punch minus 3 points per minute over the 1-hour time limit.  We'll have some photos up soon as well.
