Racing Ahead: New England Adventure Racing
About Racing Ahead, and owners Tracey and Steve Olafsen
Racing Ahead is an Adventure Sport racing company based in New England. We have been involved with Adventure Racing since 2001 hosting half to multi-day races as well as instructional clinics. Each year we host a variety of AR's, from training weekends to full 24HR National Qualifiers throughout the New England area. Most of our races are based in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
We are avid orienteers and adventurers and found adventure racing through orienteering. Our daughter Erin Nielsen first introduced us to the sport when she was racing on Team Timex / ARFE, and from there Tracey went on to Qualify for the USARA National Championships in 2005 on Team Phast Generation with fellow orienteer, Ken Walker, Sr. where they finished 5th in the Masters Division. In that same year, Tracey and daughter Tora Olafsen began volunteering at Racing Ahead events, then operated by Norm Greenburg and Tracyn Thayer. We were impressed with the professionalism of the company and friendly atmosphere. When Norm and Tracyn decided to concentrate on their family rather than racing, Tracey bought Racing Ahead to continue providing excellent adventure racing opportunities in the New England area.
It is that professionalism and competitor-friendly atmosphere that we are continuing in the new Racing Ahead with the continuing Adventure races in New England as well as introducing training weekends, instructional events, and possibly off-road triathlon or dual element races.
