Training idea 04/21/2010
An idea for training is to look at a topographical map of a (new to you) area and find some old roads (labeled 4WD on topo maps) and pick a route that you might like to find. Disclaimer: When you get there, you may find the road or trail is now a paved development road, private property, or completely grown over! That's part of the fun, you just don't know. We do a lot of scouting for our races and that's what we do, we find routes. When you do make it onto a trail that's navigable, use your map reading skills to keep track of streams, other trails, town boundary markers, etc, along your way and you'll be doing your own mini adventure race (with "checkpoints")! It's safest to tackle these trips with a buddy! Recently we tried to ride around Dan Hole Pond in the Ossipee Mountains but found one "road" so grown over that it took us way too long to slog our bikes through the woods that we ran out of daylight. It was kind of like a mini adventure race...approaching night was our time cut-off and we didn't finish our route...a DNF for us! But we had fun and nearly ran into a moose! Winter multisports 12/07/2009
Just because it's winter, doesn't mean you hibernate! http://www.wintermultisport.com/ http://www.winterwild.com/ The race started promptly at 7AM this morning and local New England Teams of Team Granite AR (NH), Eastern Mountain Sports Monster Masters (NH), Team Granite AR - 1 (NH), Berlin Bike (CT), and Dark Horse / Masters (CT), are racing well! Team Granite AR was the first team through Checkpoint 1, and apparently it's raining hard down there. Perhaps all that racing in the foul New England weather is setting our local teams up for success! Follow along with USARA's Race Updates. Here's wishing the best of luck and great racing to all the teams out there! Congratulations to all Racing Ahead racers! 09/17/2009
Congratulations to team Eastern Mountain Sports on their first place finish and to Granite AR and Team Granite AR on their close second and third place finishes in the 12 Hour USARA Qualifier! Congratulations also go out to Canon Fodder (coed) & Mountain Goat / Ibex (male) on winning the 3 Hour AR with a tie! Thank you all so much for racing on our epic courses and toughing it out in the pouring rain! We have just as much fun putting on these races as you have racing in them - which makes for exciting (and tense!) times both pre-race, during the race, and post-race! Results and Photos are now up. We're in the process of writing up a race report, but in the meantime, Granite AR has a nice one posted! We have a little over a week to race day and we are excited! Red Hook Brewery has agreed to sponsor the race, so you can count on having some excellent and delicious prizes as well as as a great post-race party! We also have a lot of teams registered, making for a competitive and fun race. There are quite a few late (but still excellent) entries to the "Teammate Finder" so if you are looking to put together a last minute team or need a third teammate, take a look! We look forward to seeing everyone September 12! Welcome to the New Site! 05/18/2009
Welcome to the new Racingahead.com! We've completely redesigned the site. So far everything seems great! This will hopefully make it easier for us to keep the site up to date and post pictures and results from races. |
